It’s been one week since 12 lucky Lobero supporters (and two even luckier staffers) headed out on an epic roadtrip to see Adele at the Staples Center.
To say that Adele has been on a hot streak lately would be a major understatement. The husky-voiced British singer has captured the attention of the world with her classy throwback style; signature winged eyeliner, and emotionally charged songs that speak to anyone with feelings. With her third album 25 at the top of the charts, and a completely sold out worldwide tour underway, 2016 was the summer of Adele.
Adele burst onto the scene in 2008, winning two GRAMMY® awards for her debut album, 19. Her follow-up, 21, was also a huge success, and Adele continued to collect awards and break records. Her newest album 25 was released in 2015 and has already sold over 100 million copies, making Adele one of the best-selling recording artists in the world. Her 2016 world tour quickly sold out, making this opportunity even more exciting.
12 lucky Lobero supporters were able to enjoy Adele’s sold-out show at the Staples Center on August 10, as very special bonus for naming a seat at their favorite hometown venue. Those who dedicated a seat made a valuable contribution to the theatre and got to share the unforgettable experience of the Lobero’s first roadtrip. Guests kicked off the afternoon by getting to know each other and discussing their favorite shows at the Lobero to a soundtrack of past Lobero LIVE artists, and enjoying snacks from C’est Cheese and beverages in souvenir wine glasses. After battling Los Angeles traffic, the gang got to enjoy a catered buffet including prime rib, potato pancakes, and chocolate-covered strawberries. Once Adele took the stage, everyone was primed for a terrific performance. Between her inspiring songs, she posed for selfies, told hilarious personal stories, and proved that she is the most down-to-earth superstar imaginable.

I’m always happy to hear that artists love the Lobero as much as we do. It was very affirming to travel back through all the photos of Jazz artists over the last 15 years to see that many of them have terrific things to say about the Lobero Theatre. When I get to speak with these talented artists backstage about how much they’ve enjoyed their experience and how they’d love to return, it reminds me of all the reasons we’ve decided to dedicate ourselves to this theatre.
We at the Lobero Theatre work hard behind the scenes so that musicians, dancers, actors, technicians and promoters can put on the best shows they can. We try our best to deliver an experience for those who attend and those who perform.
We still need help from you–our patrons, supporters and friends–to guarantee we can keep up with our mission to preserve and maintain the Lobero Theatre and facilitate the finest in the performing arts. I can guarantee that there is a way to support the Lobero that will line up with something that you’re passionate about. If you have an ear or an interest in jazz, become a Brubeck Circle member. If you want to keep seeing kids get up onstage and realize their dreams, then you can support our vibrant youth programs. You can leave your mark by naming a seat in our auditorium, or leave a lasting impression by contributing to the Lobero’s Endowment fund. If you would rather roll up your sleeves and spend your time to support the theatre, then maybe you should consider volunteering as an usher, or becoming a Lobero Theatre Associate.
There are so many facets to this great organization, andBACKSTAGE works to spotlight them all in each issue. Start by perusing this years’ annual report, and then read on about all the people and programs that make the Lobero sing.
The Lobero Associates, a venerable group of women tirelessly devoted to fundraising for the Lobero Theatre, has hosted a wildly popular annual luncheon entitled, “Hat’s Off” for many years. This year, the Lobero Associates present an all-new and alluring evening event sure to entertain and delight.
This year’s glamorous event will feature a three-course supper, dancing, live music, photo booths, and a silent auction including hi-end items such as jewelry and a painting by Jonathan Winters. (pictured here.)
