2017 Floor to Air Festival
Date/TimeFriday, May 26 at 7:00pm
The first platform of its kind to highlight the organic relationship between grounded and flight-bound dance, the Santa Barbara Floor to Air Festival presents the ancient art of aerial technique from a decidedly contemporary point of view. Now in its fourth year, the festival unites professional artists from around the globe for a collaborative residency under sea and sky, culminating in an ensemble performance that blends distinctive movement languages with distinguishing approaches. Debuting on the Lobero stage before making its way across theatres and continents the world over, each of the three works presented will incorporate traditional apparatus in an unconventional light, using bodies and flight as metaphors for the human condition. Against a sonic backdrop of bass and strings, with staggering strength and touching vulnerability, the art of contemporary flight resonates with artistic prowess and the boundless optimism to search diligently for our proverbial wings, ascending to our highest potential.
