Founded in 1946, the Juilliard String Quartet is one of America’s defining chamber ensembles—an institution not because it stands still, but because it continually renews what quartet playing can mean. As quartet-in-residence at The Juilliard School, today’s members—Areta Zhulla, Leonard Fu, Molly Carr, and Astrid Schween—carry forward a legacy of uncompromising craft, adventurous repertoire, and a particular kind of intensity: the feeling that every bar is being decided, together, right now.
Joining them is pianist Simone Dinnerstein, celebrated for artistry that is both fearless and intimately communicative. Her self-produced recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations became a landmark not by sheer spectacle, but by the strength of a personal voice—an approach that translates beautifully to chamber music, where listening is the highest virtuosity.
This is Masterseries at its core: four string voices and one piano, close enough to hear the grain of the sound, and a meeting of artists who treat collaboration as an art form in itself.
