Born to be Wild

by Gina Graham
June 28, 2025

This is a special benefit screening for the Maue Kay Foundation, a nonprofit charitable foundation formed in 2004 by John Kay and Jutta Maue Kay, which supports individuals and organizations engaged in the protection of Wildlife, The Environment and Human Rights.

Steppenwolf is one of the most legendary, enigmatic bands in rock history. But what few people know is that the band’s center of gravity was two German immigrant children (singer John Kay and bassist Nick St. Nicholas) who first met in Toronto before moving on to California together.

This new documentary takes us from war-torn Germany to the working-class streets of Toronto and Los Angeles where the band rises to international fame after their songs are featured in the cult classic film Easy Rider. The screening runs approximately 90 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A. There will be a post screening reception hosted by John Kay.

John Waters

by Gina Graham
June 18, 2025

Ok, John Waters is finally coming clean, so to speak, and his all-new, secret-sharing, one-man crackpot comedy show dares to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the filthy truth. It’s an endless bag of trans-gressive and hetero-nonaggressive twisted tales that will warm the dark little hearts of non-binary brats all over the world. Over-sharing? You bet. Too much information? Maybe so, but airing his dirty laundry makes Waters feel clean. He’ll talk to you straight even when he’s definitely not.

Go to Hale 2025

by Josh James
May 28, 2025

Covered in Music is a powerful celebration where timeless songs are reborn by emerging and seasoned artists. From stripped-down rock anthems to soul-stirring acoustic ballads, performers reimagine iconic tracks across decades and genres, honoring the originals while boldly making them their own. This show is more than a tribute; it’s a vibrant exploration of musical legacy and proof that a great song never stops inspiring.

Hosted by quipster Hale Milgrim (former President/CEO of Capitol Records) and passionate music aficionado Richard Salzberg (aka Music Maniac), the program draws from their extensive personal archives. Viewers will be treated to rare and electrifying live concert clips spanning a wide range of iconic musicians, from the 1960s to today.

This is a one night only event in support of the Lobero Theatre.

Dawes Duo

by Josh James
May 27, 2025

“This tour will be just Griffin and I. Drums and guitar. Finding new ways to present material from our entire catalogue, distilled down to its only the most essential ingredients. We’ve done this a lot recently and found that the material and the focus of the shows take on a whole new dimension. These will be some fun nights.”

For the first time in almost a decade, brothers Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith grace the cover of a Dawes record. It’s just the two of them this time, and as such, Oh Brother marks a distinctive new chapter for the California rock band — one that is both introspective and accessible, all while maintaining their beloved sense of sincerity.

Oh Brother steers Dawes decidedly forward, honoring 15 years of Taylor and Griffin’s musical relationship, as well as the next era of their band. Each of the nine songs began with just Taylor on guitar and vocals and Griffin on drums. They initially tracked each one live together, before adding in additional instrumentation and collaborating with touring guitarist Trevor Menear in the studio. Additionally, Oh Brother is the first record the brothers have co-produced, working alongside longtime friend Mike Viola.

At this point in the Goldsmith’s career, Dawes has cemented itself as one of the most earnest, no-bullshit musical acts out there. They’re a band that can move seamlessly between folk rock, piano ballads, and sprawling jams while maintaining both an immediately recognizable sound and a freedom from expectations. Even as the Goldsmith brothers navigates new chapters in their personal and professional lives, Oh Brother shows how they remain creative, ambitious, and inspired — what it means to be lifers in a band together.

A Unique Creative Collaboration

East Coast meets West Coast as tango legend Fernanda Ghi joins rising star choreographer Meredith Ventura to create Malena — an adventure in dance storytelling about rebellion, freedom, and connection. Told in three acts, Malena moves from the intimate embrace of traditional tango, to the raw rebellion of dancing alone in freestyle, and finally to a return — transformed — to a new kind of tango. A bold, genre-defying original production, born in Santa Barbara, blending the passion of Argentine tango with contemporary dance.

Fernanda Ghi Dance Company explores the roots of Argentine tango through the lens of other artistic disciplines and social themes. Led by choreographer and dancer Fernanda Ghi, the company works with a team of renowned dancers to build a space for innovation and creative collaboration—honoring tradition while pushing boundaries.

Selah Dance Collective, under the artistic direction of Meredith Ventura, is a contemporary dance company committed to creating original works, offering transformative educational experiences through performance, and supporting community dance projects and emerging artists through outreach, mentorship, and collaboration.

Presented by Nomad Tango, this production brings together exceptional artists with a shared mission: to expand the reach of the arts in Santa Barbara and beyond.
