Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers and Dave Hause & the Mermaid

by Josh James
May 16, 2023

Roger Clyne & The Peacemakers

Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, which emerged in 1999 as a Southwestern supergroup, features Roger Clyne (lead vocals, guitar), P.H. Naffah (drums), Nick Scropos (bass), and Jim Dalton (lead guitar). The band, who has toured all over the US, achieved a faithful following through hard work and great music. Today, as Clyne prepares to record his 11th studio album, he continues to transform his life experiences, inspirations, observations and his own muses into timeless music.

Dave Hause & The Mermaid

Since releasing his debut album, “Resolutions”, in 2011, the Philadelphia-born songwriter has poured his whole heart, soul, and life into his music – which combines Americana tones and socially driven lyrics with punk spirit. His latest release is just as earnest and heartfelt, raw and real as anything he’s ever written before. Yet there’s also a subtle yet significant difference – here he’s delving into a more fictional type of storytelling to create what he terms “post-apocalyptic Americana.” Written by Hause, with his younger brother Tim, “Drive It Like It’s Stolen” is the distinct next phase of their creative partnership. The third release on the brothers’ own Blood Harmony record label, it shakes up expectations while at the same time building off the sound and reputation Hause has established for himself over the past decade or so.

An Evening with the Cowboy Junkies

by Josh James
May 2, 2023

Sometimes revolutions begin quietly.

In 1988, Cowboy Junkies proved that there was an audience waiting for something quiet, beautiful and reflective. The Trinity Session was like a whisper that cut through the noise – and it was compelling. It stood out in the midst of the flash and bombast that came to define the late 80’s. The now classic recording combined folk, blues and rock in a way that had never been heard before and went on to sell more than a million copies.

Formed in Toronto in 1985 with siblings Michael Timmins on guitar, Margo Timmins on vocals, Peter Timmins on drums, and Michael’s lifelong friend Alan Anton on bass, the band has sparkled over the course of 26 albums. “I’ve known Alan longer than I’ve known Pete,” says Michael. “We were friends before Pete was born.”

Unlike most long-lasting groups, Cowboy Junkies have never had a break up or taken a sanity-saving hiatus. There’s an appreciation of each other that keeps them constantly working. “It’s that intimacy and understanding of what each one of us brings to the table,” says Michael. Cowboy Junkies’ new album, “Such Ferocious Beauty”, will be released worldwide on June 2.

Matt Mathews

by Gina Graham
April 27, 2023

Celebrated online for his relatability and situational humor, Mathews has amassed over 3 million followers on TikTok and over 1 million followers on Instagram. A key component to Mathews’ internet fame is his ability to create consistently engaging content, such as his viral Instagram series Confessions with Matt, where he responds to messages from followers who reveal their deepest, darkest secrets – as well as his sidesplitting farm chores videos that show Mathews reluctantly performing daily tasks around his farm and playfully scorning his animals whenever they misbehave.

Mathews’ live show is nothing short of a bonafide barn burner, guaranteed to provide bountiful belly laughs for all who attend. Throughout his routine, Mathews incorporates a swath of taboo topics and hysterical personal experiences, including his daily life living on a farm, growing up as a gay man in Alabama, his career as a renowned boudoir photographer, and strange sexual encounters.

“Most people know me as the crazy farmer from TikTok, who cusses at his chickens in his bathrobe,” says Mathews. “While that’s definitely a real part of who I am, I’m excited to show my fans a side of me that they can’t find on social media… the real and raw Matt Mathews. My goal was to create a comedy show like no other – to make people laugh by sharing personal stories that will inspire them to reach for the stars and make shit happen!”

His comedy show also features audience interaction via a segment called “Live Confessions,” where audience members scan a QR code and anonymously submit their confessions, which he responds to impromptu on stage.

David Benoit

by Gina Graham
April 25, 2023

Have you ever met an artist whose craft is merely an extension of who they are? The iconic pianist, composer, arranger, producer, film and TV scorer David Benoit, embodies this archetype. He is as cool, measured, engaging, soulful and sophisticated as one of his mellifluous solos in a flight of fancy. A Founding Father of Contemporary Jazz, rooted in the tradition of Dave Brubeck and Bill Evans, David Benoit started playing the piano as a child and has never looked back. From endearing fans with his magical soundtracks for the Peanuts television movies, to garnering over 20 chart-topping radio hits and scoring music for films produced by Clint Eastwood and Sally Field and soap opera themes like “All My Children,” David Benoit IS music.

Hermanos Gutierrez

by Gina Graham
April 25, 2023

Artist Bio: “When Alejandro and I play together, it’s like we are driving a car,” says Estevan Gutiérrez, half of the guitar duo Hermanos Gutiérrez. “It’s like we are taking a road trip. Sometimes we’re driving through a desert. Sometimes we’re traveling up the coast. But always we are in nature, and we see the most beautiful landscapes, sunrises, sunsets.” The music these two brothers make evokes expansive plains and rough wildernesses, saguaros and surfs, spaghetti westerns and Morricone soundtracks, Lynch and Jarmusch. With their guitars they travel through landscapes haunted by vaqueros, cancioneros, wanderers, fugitives, lovers, family—and whatever ghosts their listeners bring to the music.
