March 20, 2023

Come twist the night away! Join us for a Free Community Block Party Event, in honor of the Lobero’s 150th Ovation Celebration, featuring Headliner Chubby Checker & The Wildcats, and other local performers. The legendary icon is the only artist to have 5 albums in the Top 12 all at once and a song to be #1 twice, “The Twist.” The groundbreaking song also introduced the unique concept of “dancing apart to the beat.”

His success continued for years with the release of one dance record after another, with “The Fly” and “Let’s Twist Again,” for which he won a GRAMMY® for the “Best Rock Performance.” Over the next few years, endless songs incorporating “The Twist” into its name sprang up, such as “Peppermint Twist,” “Twist and Shout,” and “Twistin’ the Night Away.” In addition, each new song inspired a new dance involving dancing apart, such as “The Jerk,” “The Hully Gully,” “The Boogaloo,” and “The Shake.” At the forefront was Chubby with “The Fly,” “The Pony,” and “The Hucklebuck.” Thereafter, even more hit records followed.

Steve Hackett

by Josh James
March 15, 2023

Hot on the heels of his most successful solo tour ever, Steve Hackett announced his Steve Hackett Genesis Revisited – Foxtrot at Fifty + Hackett Highlights tour in 2022. The tour marks the 50th anniversary of the legendary Genesis album Foxtrot which, in 1972, was pivotal in establishing the band as a major force in British rock.

Guitarist Steve Hackett joined Genesis in 1971, making his band debut on the Nursery Cryme album which enjoyed a greater commercial success in Europe than the UK. After extensive touring, the band were encouraged, by audience reactions, to further experiment with ever longer compositions and develop their ability to incorporate strong narratives. This, in turn, allowed frontman Peter Gabriel more opportunity to indulge in the theatrics which helped to raise the band’s profile.

Now, for 2023, Steve brings Foxtrot at Fifty to North America for a string of eagerly awaited dates following the huge selling UK 2022 tour.

“I think Foxtrot was a terrific achievement for Genesis at that time,” says Steve Hackett. “I think there is not one weak track on the album, they all have their strong points and I’m really looking forward to doing the whole album live.”

An Evening with Rodney Crowell

by Josh James
March 7, 2023

Born and raised in Texas, two-time GRAMMY® winner Rodney Crowell arrived in Nashville in the early 1970s, coming to prominence first as a writer before establishing himself as a critically acclaimed solo artist in his own right. With 15 number one hits under his belt and tracks recorded by everyone from Emmylou Harris and Johnny Cash to Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson, it would be difficult to overstate Crowell’s impact on roots music over the past five decades. In 2003, he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame; in 2006 he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Songwriting from the Americana Music Association; in 2017, he was honored with ASCAP’s prestigious Founder’s Award; and in 2019, he was presented with the Academy of Country Music’s Poet’s Award.

In addition to his prolific output as an artist and producer, Crowell also found time to become a celebrated author, too, publishing a memoir and a lyrical retrospective to widespread praise. Along the way, NPR declared him the “literarily inclined elder statesman of the Americana scene,” while Rolling Stone hailed him as a “country music trailblazer,” and the New York Times proclaimed that his songwriting “gets better and sharper with age.” Produced by Jeff Tweedy, Crowell’s brilliant new album, The Chicago Sessions, is as incisive, engaging, and vital as ever, touching on everything from love and mortality to race and religion, as it balances careful craftsmanship with joyful liberation at every turn.

Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley

Take a 15-time IBMA (International Bluegrass Music Association) Dobro Player of the Year and a Tennessee-born guitar prodigy who made his Grand Ole Opry debut at the age of 11, and you have Rob Ickes and Trey Hensley, a powerhouse duo that has electrified the acoustic music scene. Known for their white-hot picking, stone country vocals with soul, and world class live musicianship, Ickes and Hensley meld together blues, bluegrass, country, rock, and other string band music of all kinds to form a signature blend of music that defies restrictions of genre. They are equally at home on stages of prestigious performing arts centers, theaters, and the Grand Ole Opry as they are on Americana, jamgrass, bluegrass and jam band festivals.

Al Stewart with The Empty Pockets

by Gina Graham
March 1, 2023

After Al’s US tour in 2019 with his band The Empty Pockets, he spent most of 2020 and 2021 sidelined due the COVID-19 pandemic. But in 2022, he came back full force with a string of sold out shows in the United States and United Kingdom, and he even made his debut in Israel.  In 2023, he’ll continue his trek with several shows throughout the United States.  He will be playing his old favorites, like “Year Of The Cat”, “Time Passages”, “On the Border”, “Nostradamus” and “Roads To Moscow”, along with selections from his deep catalogue.

The Scottish-born singer-songwriter has released nearly 20 introspective and lyrically powerful records featuring brilliant backing musicians (Jimmy Page, Phil Collins, Richard Thompson, Peter White, etc.). His biggest platinum successes, “Year Of The Cat” and “Time Passages”, were released in 1976 & 1978 respectively. He’s had several top 20 singles, including the above-mentioned titles, as well as “On the Border” and “Song On The Radio”.

In Al’s own Words: “I’m just a folk singer that is interested in history and wine that got lucky with some hit records!  It’s as simple as that really. I was always a huge music fan and originally, I had wanted to be Brian Jones and then Bob Dylan, but those two jobs were already taken. And in many ways, I’m still pretty much the same troubadour that I was back in 1965. I still get a kick out of hearing the Zombies, Hendrix or They Might be Giants on the radio.”

GRAMMY® Award-winner/Fingerstyle Guitarist of the Year Laurence Juber is also known as the guitarist for Paul McCartney’s Wings.
