A Tribute to Johnny Cash & Elvis Presley

by Gina Graham
August 27, 2019

The legacy of Johnny Cash lives on with the help of singer-guitarist Danny Millsap and the Hennessy Three—together forming The Only Johnny Cash Tribute Band. Millsap credits a 1990 Cash concert in Fresno as a formative moment, sparking a lifelong goal to keep the music and mystery of The Man in Black alive. With his Cash tribute, he’s performed all over Northern California and the Central Valley, Oregon and Arizona, breathing new life into the legendary ballads of the somber singer-songwriter.  Always audience participation in every show.

“In 1990 I had the great pleasure of seeing Johnny Cash live in Concert in Fresno, California. I have always been a fan of his style of country music and the mystery he brought to the stage, and after seeing him in concert I was hooked. On September 12, 2003, Johnny passed and we lost a true Legend. God bless you, Johnny Cash.” – Danny Millsap

I formed The Only Cash Tribute Band to do our part to keep his music alive. No matter where we go, it is an honor to recreate the style, mystery and music of the legendary Johnny Cash. You can also help to keep the music going by coming to one of our shows and buying Johnny Cash music today! We promise to be true to the Cash sound and make Johnny proud.

Audience Participation in every show!

Come out to one of their shows and help keep the Music of the Legend Johnny Cash alive!

Danny Memphis was born and raised in Memphis, Tn and is regarded as a World Class Elvis natural vocalist, performer and musician.  Danny, along with his first band, won first place in Memphis in a contest against dozens of acts at the Overton Park Shell, the same stage that Elvis performed his first professional show.

Past performances include 20th Century Fox Studios, The U.S NAVY, The Grand Duchess of Russia, additional shows Palm Springs Ca Resorts, Hilton Hotels, American Cancer Society Fundraisers. Sunset Strip, Hollywood, Ca, Edmonton, Alberta Canada and TPC Valencia (Tournament Players Club) amongst others.

Raised on Elvis since childhood, Danny Memphis truly captures the look, essence, dance moves and natural vocal style in a tasteful, heartfelt, true to the man celebration of Elvis and his music from the 50’s 60’s and 70’s eras.

Danny has dedicated part of his life to preserving Elvis’s legacy in a positive and real way.

Jazz 1920 – Brubeck Brothers

by Genevieve Rhiger
August 23, 2019

The year 2020 marked the centennial of jazz giant Dave Brubeck. To celebrate his life and legacy, his sons, Chris and Dan – who have been making music together practically all their lives – curate a multimedia show with their own Brubeck Brothers Quartet. Drummer Dan and bassist, trombonist, composer Chris cut their first record together more than half a century ago. They’ve played a variety of styles in a number of different groups, as well as with their father. The Brubeck brothers form the foundation, with guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb completing this dynamic quartet, who perform concert series and jazz festivals around the world. Through stories told by his sons, video interviews with Dave and musicians he influenced, and music performed by the Quartet, this show invites audiences to travel along the timeline of Dave’s extraordinary life and career.

“There’s nothing out there that comes close to their unique blend of inventiveness.”All About Jazz

Jazz 1920 – Dianne Reeves

by Genevieve Rhiger
August 23, 2019

The pre-eminent jazz vocalist in the world today, Dianne Reeves’ arsenal of talents is richly on display in every song of her limitless repertoire. With Dianne Reeves & Beleza Brazil, Dianne launches a new program devoted to the sounds of Brazil. In Portuguese, the phrase “Beleza Brazil” loosely translates to “the beauty of Brazil,” a sentiment brought to the fore in this exquisite program. Brazilian music has always been a passion of Dianne’s, which is evident in just about every one of her recordings. Featuring a masterful band (John Beasley-Keyboards, Romero Lubamo- Guitars, Itaiguaro Brandao-Basses, Rafael Barata-Drums), this is Dianne’s first program devoted entirely to the beautiful music of Brazil.

With her prowess, it’s no surprise that Dianne has received five Grammy Awards for Best Jazz Vocal Album, an honorary doctorate of music from Juilliard, and was recently named a 2018 National Endowment of the Arts Jazz Master – the highest honor the United States bestows on jazz artists. Dianne’s magical, timeless voice, exceptional personality and the sheer force of her performance mark her as a captivating world-class artist. Wynton Marsalis exclaims, “She has one of the most powerful, purposeful, and accurate voices of this or any time.” Beleza Brazil is an enchanting global experience from a natural wonder not to be missed.

Arlo Guthrie 2020

by Genevieve Rhiger
August 21, 2019
It is with great disappointment that we share that Arlo Guthrie has been forced to retire for health reasons. Arlo has performed many times at the Lobero over the years, and we will miss having his joyful presence on our stage. Unfortunately this means that his April 21, 2021 performance has been canceled.

If you are able, please consider donating your tickets in Arlo’s honor. With the proceeds of all ticket donations, we will dedicate a seat in the Lobero auditorium in Arlo’s honor as a tribute from his fans. It’s a well-deserved honor for an artist who has brought Santa Barbara so much joy.

To donate your ticket(s) or to request a refund, please visit our Performance Update page here. Click here to submit a refund request or ticket donation.

A Note from Arlo:

“It’s been a great 50+ years of being a working entertainer, but I reached the difficult decision this morning that touring and stage shows are no longer possible.

I’d been informed by medical professionals that I suffered a stroke toward the end of last year (2019), a few days after our show at Carnegie Hall. I didn’t know at the time if I’d be able to continue performing, but I chose to continue with the shows that had been scheduled…in the hopes that working onstage would help in my recovery. Unfortunately, the pandemic and the closing of venues cut short any efforts to that affect. My performances earlier this year only confirmed what I knew, that my playing and singing were not what my audiences or myself should expect. Regretfully, I have made the difficult decision to cancel any scheduled stage shows; further, I will not be able to accept any offers for musical performances going forward. I remain grateful to my band and crew, family and friends for the decades we shared, and I hope that the future opens doors to new opportunities

The Christmas Revels: A Venetian Celebration of the Winter Solstice

by Cecilia Martini-Muth
August 15, 2019

The Christmas Revels: A Venetian Celebration of the Winter Solstice is a joyous theatrical celebration set in Renaissance Italy. Venice’s “Festival of Fishes” is fast approaching. Performing groups vie for selection to perform for the festivities. A traveling commedia dell’arte troupe is desperately eager to participate, but the Magistrato in charge of selection is determined that the lowest class of citizens – actors – be excluded from the lineup.

Our Revels company is joined by accomplished guest artists, including the SBCC Sackbut Ensemble. The Christmas Revels is an exciting and heartwarming entertainment experience for every age and a favorite Santa Barbara holiday tradition created by and for our community for the past 12 years.

Bob Saget

by Cecilia Martini-Muth
August 15, 2019

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Bob Saget show on Saturday, October 12 at the Lobero Theatre has been canceled.

Refunds will be issued through the Lobero Theatre Box Office. Please call with any questions: 805.963.0761

Due to mature content, Bob’s shows are 18 and up.

Yes, Bob Saget has starred in many successful television shows, including two of the most family-friendly shows network TV has ever produced (“Full House” and “Americas Funniest Home Videos”) but he’s also an out of his mind standup comedian for over thirty years. From his 2014 Grammy-nominated stand-up special, “That’s What I’m Talkin’ About” to his scene-stealing cameos in “Entourage,” and “The Aristocrats,” it’s always effective as Saget embraces his dark side. In January 2016, Bob completed a 9-week run on Broadway as Pastor Greg in the Tony-nominated play, Hand To God, and his first book, Dirty Daddy, is a New York Times Best Seller with Vanity Fair calling it, “Hilarious and at times heartbreaking.”

Bob can be seen in the hit Netflix series, Fuller House, and he directed and will star in the upcoming independent film, Benjamin, premiering April 23.  Bob will host, write and Executive Produce the new ABC series, Videos After Dark, featuring home videos with an edgier twist. The show premiered an hour-long first look on March 12 with the full season premiering later this year. His new hour stand-up special, Zero To Sixty, is streaming on Amazon Prime and is available to rent or buy on Amazon, iTunes and many other platforms. Bob continues touring his standup across North America.
