A Note From Adrianne:
Dear Fans, We are touring in uncertain times yet we are so excited to be able to play music with you again and get back to doing what we love. Our intention is to return to tour as safely as possible for everyone at the shows. We will require proof of vaccination or a negative PCR test within 48 hours and that people wear masks to attend our upcoming shows. We have been anticipating this for a really long time but we are not sure how this will feel. All we can do is take it day by day. We’re grateful to be able to give it a shot and be on this journey with you all. Love, Adrianne

Paul Thorn & Band

by Gina Graham
July 12, 2021

Mississippi-native songwriter, singer, and guitar slinger Paul Thorn has created an innovative and impressive career, pleasing crowds with his muscular brand of roots music. Bluesy, rocking and thoroughly Southern Americana. A modern day Will Rogers with songs that speak to universal truths. He has made some of the most emotionally restless yet fully accessible music of our time. Thorn has performed with Bonnie Raitt, Mark Knopfler, Sting, and John Prine, among many others. He’s also appeared on major television shows, received numerous National Public Radio features and charted multiple times on the Billboard Top 100 and Americana Radio Charts. His new album, Never Too Late To Call, will be available on August 6th via Thirty Tigers.

Paul Thorn is known for his down-home folksy humor with songs that will make you laugh and ballads that will bring you to tears. He is able to breathe in the air around him, every day and commonplace, and exhale something original and often side-splitting funny. It’s a kind of genius, and it’s there plain to see, in his music, his art and through his performances, which not only showcase his chops as a singer-songwriter, but as a pitch-perfect improv comic. His audiences love it. And they come back for more because no two Paul Thorn performances are alike. Check out Thorn’s website www.paulthorn.com and YouTube videos https://youtu.be/RB7_D3acKzU.

Local singer/songwriter Will Breman, finalist on NBC’s The Voice, to warm up the stage.

He’s recorded music with or backed up every one from Jerry Harrison of The Talking Heads to Neil Young, and sung duets with Eddie Vedder and Amy Mann. Gill’s set will pull from his 3 full length albums, his deep ALO catalog and some classic covers. He will be joined onstage by ALO band mate Steve Adams and Jack Johnson cohort Adam Topol, as well as by local favorites, including the surf mariachi indie pop artist Spencer the Gardener, guitarist-composer Joe Woodard and Tableaux Sonique, and Brazilian New Bossa vocalist-guitarist Teka, and more. The event is first-come first-served and seats 550 people.

The Lobero Theatre Foundation would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Santa Barbara’s amazingly benevolent community by hosting a free concert celebrating the return of live events. After closing its doors in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the theater lost more than $1.5 million in critical earned income and faced an uncertain future. The Lobero is deeply grateful to their local and international patrons who supported them during the global crisis, made additional contributions when purchasing tickets, and generously offered to forego ticket refunds on cancelled events. After a successful soft reopening this June with Songs of Summer and the Santa Barbara Opera, the Lobero is thrilled go back to doing what they do best – LIVE! So come raise a glass under the stars on the esplanade to celebrate the Lobero’s kickoff to the 21-22 season and enjoy An Evening with Zach Gill and Special Guests!

Go To Hale

by Genevieve Rhiger
July 9, 2021

After keeping their heads down for almost two years, Hale Milgrim (Former president/CEO of Capitol Records) and his cohort, Richard Salzberg (aka ‘Music Maniac’) are back with a newly crafted presentation entitled “Music That Connects Us.” The pandemic demonstrated how the universal language of music helps us to heal and stay connected. The upcoming show will feature rare musical film clips from the 1960’s to the present, with insider commentary from Hale. As always, this is a personal passion project for Hale and Richard, but more importantly, a fundraiser for the Lobero Theatre which supports live music in Santa Barbara.

Anyone who’s attended previous Quips & Clips shows (e.g. tributes to George Harrison, Bob Dylan, and Bill Graham’s Closing of The Fillmore), know what a special ‘One Night Only’ experience this will be. The majority of archival film footage has been curated from Hale and Richard’s vast private library collections. Hundreds of film clips have been reviewed and only the best will be shown. This is music that absolutely connects with Hale and Richard, and we hope it will resonate with you too.

The Immediate Family

by Genevieve Rhiger
July 9, 2021

The unique group of iconic musicians, known for their long, illustrious careers backing up countless Hall-of-Fame artists, have played together for decades, but never as their own band. The artists have come together to perform their own songs as The Immediate Family, a band that can legitimately be called a supergroup. The band has kept quite busy during the pandemic, releasing the two EPs Slippin and Slidin’ (which debuted at #6 on Billboard’s Blue Chart) and Can’t Stop Progress. They are eager to get back to playing live shows again, touring in the fall following the release of their new self-titled full-length album. If it sounds like their careers would make a good movie, you’re not wrong. Danny Tedesco, the filmmaker behind the acclaimed The Wrecking Crew documentary, is currently hard at work on The Immediate Family documentary, expected to be released in 2022.

Cinema Classics on Piano with Maestro Bryan Tari

by Gina Graham
July 7, 2021

Maestro Tari has created a symphonic arrangement of Star Wars themes into a captivating medley, which he has performed at the Lobero to standing ovations since 2017. He has now assembled the perfect show of memorable movie music, performing his exceptional arrangements of songs and themes from some of the greatest films of all time, including Gone with the Wind, The Godfather, and Superman, with Star Wars as the grand finale. A delightful family event for those looking to escape into a world of magical cinema rhapsody.

Maestro Bryan Tari was born in Hollywood, California and raised by Hungarian parents, who exposed him to eclectic styles of European music in early childhood. After receiving a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from CSU Northridge, Tari studied opera piano with Lawrence Wong and Warren Jones, then opera conducting with world-renowned conductor Henry Holt, who started the Los Angeles Opera. In the Hollywood arena, Bryan was selected to music direct, compose, and arrange for a multimedia production called Nine Worlds (owned and distributed by Mattel Interactive), which was narrated and hosted by Patrick Stewart from the Star Trek Next Generation series. His soundtrack performance of  The Planets, a famous symphonic work composed by Gustav Holst in 1917, was signed to BiB Records.

In 2000, Tari began performing world class concerts to sold out audiences in major venues. He specializes in the Romantic period, particularly in Chopin and Liszt, and is an expert in all genres of music from baroque to contemporary. Tari likes to amuse himself by playing a bit of jazz, gospel, and jamming with other blues players. He became a Santa Barbara resident in 2007 and started composing original Old Spanish Fiesta themed music in 2012. In 2017, Tari mastered his piano arrangement of “The Star Wars Fantasy Piano Medley,” and is now gearing up to take his latest concert Cinema Classics on Piano on a world tour, starting in Las Vegas in 2022.

The Wallflowers

by Gina Graham
July 7, 2021

For the past 30 years, The Wallflowers have held their ground as one of rock’s most dynamic and purposeful bands – continually honing a sound that meshes timeless songwriting and storytelling with a hard-hitting and decidedly modern musical attack. Exit Wounds, the group’s latest studio offering, marks the first new material since Glad All Over. And while the wait has been long, the much-anticipated record finds the GRAMMY® Award winning band’s signature sound – lean, potent and eminently entrancing – intact, even as Jakob Dylan surrounds himself with a fresh cast of musicians.

Opening for The Wallflowers will be Ragged Glory, the Neil Young tribute band.

Ragged Glory, a Neil Young & Crazy Horse tribute band, features vocalist Gary Williams along with bassist Dan Rothchild (Heart), keyboardist Jordan Summers (All Day Sucker), guitarist Andrew Slater (Record Producer/Director of Echo In The Canyon) and Drummer Dan Potruch (Joe Perry) will recreate the material of Neil Young and Crazy Horse from 1969-1979. The band reconvenes only once a year to perform this material.

Doublewide Kings

by Gina Graham
July 2, 2021

People, can you feel it? Skies are getting bluer and songs are in the air. More to the point, the ramblin’ men of the Doublewide Kings finally have their masks down, their guitars back on, and—after our difficult year of lockdown—the band is ready to get out of the house and up on the stage again. So, the Doublewide Kings invite you most enthusiastically to a celebration of the music of the Allman Brothers at the Lobero Theatre on Saturday November 13. The Kings and some special guests will play old favorites like “Jessica”, “Midnight Rider” and “Whipping Post” ready to rock, alongside some deeper album cuts and—in true Allman’s tradition—some head-expanding jams. The Doublewide Kings have earned their ‘exuberant outlaw’ reputation by blowing the roof off the Lobero with their past celebrations of the music of Neil Young and the music of Crosby, Stills and Nash. Both of those shows sold out fast, so don’t be caught wastin’ time no more. Reserve your seat today: it’s time to treat yourself to a night out with the Doublewide Kings and let your soul shine! Tickets available at Lobero.org and on the Doublewide Kings website.

Pat Metheny Side-Eye

by Genevieve Rhiger
June 22, 2021

Receiving great acclaim for his recent classical guitar album Road to the Sun, Metheny is set to dive back into his beloved trio format. The guitar guru has created a new musical platform consisting of a continuously changing line-up of aspiring young musicians he has been impressed by. Pat Metheny is joined onstage by James Francies (keyboards, piano) and drummer Joe Dyson. The trio will be performing music from across Metheny’s massive career as well as new material unique to this live band.

Pat Metheny is launching a new playing environment called “Side-Eye” for this upcoming season. Pat explains “I wanted to create an ongoing setting to feature a rotating cast of new and upcoming musicians who have particularly caught my interest along the way.” Pat continues “From my earliest days in Kansas City onward, I was the beneficiary of so many older musicians giving me a platform to develop my thing through the prism of their experience and the particular demands of what their music implied. I have been feeling like I wanted to have a specific platform to focus on some of the many younger musicians I have enjoyed recently who I have felt some kind of a kinship with.” “I hear regularly from new players on the scene who have professed an influence from my records and tunes and I often invite them up to my house to play. Very often, it is really natural and organic to the music to play with them, they have literally grown up with it. I find myself inspired by how they deal with the musical challenges that come with the territory of some of those older tunes, and at the same time I find myself intrigued with the possibilities of what might be possible in writing new music just for them. This band setting is what that will be all about.” This edition of Side-Eye will feature James Francies (keyboards, piano) and drummer Joe Dyson.
